Algoread Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Algoread (“the App”), provided by Algostamp (“we”, “us”, or “our”), handles information when you use the App on iPhone or iPad.
Algoread is designed to process your documents on your device. We do not require an account, and we do not operate a service that collects your documents for storage on our servers.
1. Summary
- No account or sign-in is required.
- Your imported documents stay on your device.
- Speech, OCR, and document summaries run on device using Apple frameworks and, if you choose, an optional on-device AI speech model.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs in the App.
2. Information the App stores on your device
Depending on how you use Algoread, the App may store the following locally on your device:
- Documents you import. When you open or import a file (for example PDF, DOCX, ODT, TXT, Markdown, RTF/RTFD, HTML, CSV, JSON, or XML), Algoread copies it into the App’s private library in your device’s sandboxed storage, along with a local library index needed to list and open those files.
- Playback preferences. Settings such as speech rate, selected Apple or Kokoro voice, and speech-engine choice may be saved in on-device preferences (UserDefaults).
- Temporary audio and processing files. While narrating, the App may create temporary audio or timing files needed for playback and highlighting. These are stored locally and cleaned up during normal use.
- Optional Kokoro speech model. If you choose to enable the optional on-device Kokoro AI speech engine, the App downloads model and voice files to local application support storage on your device (approximately 333 MB).
Because documents are stored in the App sandbox, uninstalling Algoread removes the App’s local library and related local data, subject to how iOS manages app deletion.
3. Information we do not collect
Algostamp does not collect, receive, or store the following from Algoread on our servers:
- Your imported document contents
- Account credentials (the App has no accounts)
- Name, email address, phone number, or precise location collected by the App
- Advertising identifiers for tracking across other companies’ apps or websites
- Analytics events from third-party analytics products
We do not use your documents to train models for Algostamp, and we do not sell or share your documents with data brokers.
4. On-device processing
Algoread processes content on your device to provide core features, including:
- Extracting readable text from documents
- Optical character recognition (OCR) for scanned or image-only PDF pages using Apple Vision
- Text-to-speech narration using Apple speech synthesis
- Word highlighting synchronized with speech
- Optional local AI speech using the Kokoro model after you download it
- Optional private document summaries on supported devices using Apple Foundation Models / Apple Intelligence, where available
These features are intended to run locally. Document text is not uploaded to Algostamp servers for speech, OCR, or summarization.
5. Network use
Algoread can work for Apple speech narration without requiring you to create an account. The App may use the network in limited cases:
- Optional Kokoro model download. If you choose to install the optional Kokoro AI speech pack, the App downloads model and voice files over HTTPS from third-party hosting (currently Hugging Face). That download retrieves model assets only. Your documents are not uploaded as part of that download.
- Operating system and App Store services. Apple may process information as described in Apple’s privacy policy when you download or update the App, use system speech voices, Apple Intelligence features, or other iOS/iPadOS services.
Standard network metadata (such as IP address) may be processed by the download host or network providers when a download occurs. That processing is governed by those parties’ own policies.
6. Permissions and system integrations
Depending on iOS version and features you use, Algoread may interact with:
- Files and share-sheet imports you explicitly choose
- Background audio so narration can continue while the screen is locked
- Lock Screen / Control Centre Now Playing controls for playback
- On-device Apple speech, Vision, and (where available) Apple Intelligence frameworks
The App does not request access to your contacts, camera, microphone, photos library, or precise location as part of its core document-reading features.
7. Children’s privacy
Algoread is a general-audience utility and is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the App. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
8. Data retention and deletion
- Local documents and preferences remain on your device until you delete them in the App or remove the App.
- You can remove imported documents from the in-app library.
- Deleting the App deletes its sandboxed local data, including the local library and any downloaded Kokoro model files, subject to iOS behavior.
Because we do not maintain a cloud copy of your Algoread library, there is no Algostamp server-side document archive for us to delete on request.
9. Third-party services
If you opt in to the Kokoro download, model files may be retrieved from third-party hosting providers. Those providers are not controlled by Algostamp. We encourage you to review their terms and privacy notices.
Apple provides the App Store, device operating system, and system frameworks used by Algoread. Apple’s handling of data is described in Apple’s Privacy Policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/.
10. International users
Algoread processes information primarily on your device wherever you use it. If you download optional model files, that transfer may involve servers located in other countries, depending on the hosting provider’s infrastructure.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the App after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy. For material changes, we may also provide an in-app or App Store notice where appropriate.
