Getting started
- Tap import or open a document from Files / Share Sheet to add it to your library.
- Open a document, then use the player controls to play, pause, skip, or adjust speed.
- Choose an Apple system voice, or download the optional on-device Kokoro AI voices on supported devices.
- Playback can continue with the screen locked and appears in Lock Screen / Control Centre controls.
Supported file types
PDF, DOCX, ODT, TXT, Markdown, RTF/RTFD, HTML, CSV, JSON, XML, and similar text formats.
Legacy binary .doc files are not supported—save them as DOCX or PDF first.
Common questions
Where are my documents stored?
Documents you import are copied into Algoread’s private library on your device. They are
not uploaded to Algostamp servers.
Does Algoread need an account or subscription?
No. There is no sign-in, and Apple speech narration does not require a subscription.
Why can’t I use Kokoro AI voices?
Kokoro requires a physical iPhone or iPad on iOS/iPadOS 18 or later, plus an optional
one-time model download (about 333 MB). On unsupported devices, Apple voices remain available.
Speech stopped or switched voices during background playback
Apple speech can continue in the background. Kokoro audio is generated on device; if iOS
suspends generation before the next passage is ready, Algoread may temporarily use an Apple
voice so narration can continue.
Scanned PDFs have little or no text
Algoread can use on-device OCR for image-only pages. Complex layouts may still have imperfect
reading order.
How do I delete my data?
Remove documents from the in-app library, or delete the app to remove its local library and
any downloaded Kokoro model files.
